New Club Prospect, Steve Plant and his 61 Old School looker
Steve has been recently working on this 61, his latest project, which keeps his 1303 Karmann Cabriolet company in his garage.
The car is a RHD Gulf Blue bug, equipped with Original EMPI Sprintstars, GTV steering wheel, a Berg locking shifter, EMPI decklid, T-bars, original pop outs and a full set of Autometer gauges. To give them something to keep an eye on Steve will be fitting a shot stroke screamer in the back, details to be decided yet but will either be an 1835 or 1914 motor running through a John Walklett built swing axle gearbox, and a set of disc brakes to haul it all back down from warp speed.
New Club Prospect, Gary Priest & his 1303 German Look project
Here's Gary's car. His project is based on a 1974 'Big' Special Edition 1303 Bug, which required much bodywork before the mods could start. It features such niceties as Porsche 944 disc brakes all round, A rare Hewland Mk.9 straight cut dog box with F2 shafts and Quaife ATB diff, full coilover suspension, uniballed at the rear, a Rathbone Racing rollcage and 8 & 10" wide Porsche 3 piece split rims. the car will be receiving a 2054cc Type 1 engine, and is destined to be raced around corners rather than our more usual straight lines! Gary will, however, be taking to the strip as well before long.
Club meet, Weds 25th November
