The Bench Racers Ball club meet was a hoot, but only ONE member car in attendance! We really are a bunch of bench racers.... Kev should get some kind of award or something for coming in his turbo'd bay.
Honourable burnout mention goes to John 'Leadfoot' Parton in his blue bug. The bug really sounds like a much bigger motor than the 1641cc it currently runs - that thing deserves a turbo though JP!
After initially planning to lead load a couple of dents on the roof I changed my mind and tapped them out and used a skim coat of filler instead - worries about distortion of the panel put me off. The passenger side quarter panel had been welded in the past but not finished very well, so I've spent a little time on that too, and its now in a flash coat of guide primer to allow me to finish the prep properley. I hope to have the two rear quarters and the roof prepped by the end of play on Sunday, then I can concentrate on straightening out the front end and prep that. Then its time to drop the engine to prep the panels in there, then the interior to do then the..... and on and o and on.....
A few cool shots of the race cars at the pod from the weekend, taken by my bro. Mark. Steve Parfitt's has ditched the carbs in favour of a turbo on his 2276 'Quarter Pounder' race car and has seen his times tumble as a result running a 11.7751/106.94.
The bodywork will be the first thing attacked and when that's getting close I'll be dropping engine and trans - the engine will be getting an overhaul and a general go through to find the cause of the catastrophic failure, plus a little more headwork and a change of carbs to IDA's. The trans will be getting some close ratios. The car will roll out of the garage sporting a new colour too! I may even tidy the garage ....
