ET Board updated again!
I'm sure Mossy is doing this just to keep me busy.... but here it is updated with his new pb - well done Rich!
Its been a busy weekend for the Rennwagens, with the
majority of the membership heading to a local show, VW North West held at
Tatton Park, and Richie Moss heading up to York to run his car on the quarter
mile.
Best news of the day is that Richie ran a new pb, breaking
into the 11’s for the first time with a fantastic 11.97 pass @ 110mph. Unfortunately
Rich only got two passes in, and his second one was aborted due to missing
second gear, thanks in no small part to pulling his largest wheelie off the
line!
Tatton park has been a club staple event since we first
started getting together in the late nineties, and again we had a club display this
year, with the two clubs race cars of Mark and Jamie Palmer on display along
with honorary member Phil Wain’s beautiful Porsche 912. This along with the
support vehicles of Jamie & Mark’s tow T4’s and Gaz Priest’s hot VR6 VW
Sharan made up a club display, complete with club and Drag Day regalia. The
club presence in the display area may have been limited to just a handful of
cars, but it was great to see so many members and associates in attendance
keeping the club spirit alive and well, easily spotted by their Rennwagen
T-shirts! As usual it was a great day out and an excellent time was had by all.
Gary's Picnic
A few of us headed down to Shakespeare County Raceway recently to take part in the excellent event, Garys Picnic. After the poor weather many events have experienced this year it was great to be at a drag strip without an umbrella, suncream being the order of the day instead. Jamie Palmer and Richie Moss headed down with their race cars, with support from fellow club members Paul Beardmore and Steve Milward. Rich had a solid weekend of racing although didn’t quite get to the 11 second timing slip he was hoping for, but plans were hatched during the evenings Bench Racing to get his 66 bug ‘Lil Stink Hound’ quicker still. Jamie Palmer had a frustrating weekend racing, only managing two runs throughout the weekend, the first one aborted at half track due to an accelerator cable failure, the second aborted thanks to a split cylinder. The good news is on the second aborted run he managed a new pb of 12.3.
Huge thanks to the Outlaw Flat Four guys for making us so welcome and to the Marshals and Staff of Shakey racetrack. We had a great time! The pics below have been hunted down on the internet as we didn't get to take a camera with us, I don't know who took all the photos, please let us know if you did and we can credit accordingly. We do know Alex 'Jesus' took some of the more expert looking ones!

ET Board update....
A few changes on here this month, a couple of cars have been sold on, so we've lost our previous #1 holder Kev Donlon's time, plus Paul Dipple's Fastback has been sold, and Mike Riley's Samba as well. Kev is now building a hot street Ford Anglia which looks set to be a fantastic car,but I'm sure it won't be too long before he'c back behind the wheel of a Hot VW and back here on the board. Paul's Fastback has gone, but he's held on to the Engine and Gearbox which are set to be fitted up to his Notchback, so again, Paul will be back on the board sometime soon. Mike's a serial bus buyer and already has an even hotter motor built for his next project, but the arrival of child numero uno has meant a little less time to play on projects and more time changing nappies - enjoy Mike!

Cal Look Drag Day 2012
Well thats another Drag Day over - what a weekend!!!
It started off for some of the Rennwagen crew on Friday night heading down to Santa Pod on what was a very cold evening and starting the event set up. Mark, Richie, Chris & Sian, Peach and Jamie all worked through the night til around 4 am packing up the goody bags and finally hit the hay. Saturday was bone crushingly cold all day long, but there were still a few great photo opp's with some of the cars in attendance, and the afternoons show & shine was well represented with some great cars from the OFF, DAS, DKR, JG54 and Rennwagen VW clubs.
On Sun day, the Drag Day itself, everyone was amazed to see the cold and cloudy weather replaced with brilliant sunshine and a cloudless sky. Cue the racing! Steve Milward was chasing the best RT for the weekend and narrowly missed out to Darren CLagget and ultimately destroyed his clutch to finish his weekends racing, while Jamie continued to struggle with his car - an AWOL lash cap preventing any strip action for him at all. Richie Moss snuck in a blistering 12 second dead pass, and John Parton got his Oval down to a new pb of 13.1 - well done John! John Walklett had brought his beautiful 63 ragtop down and ran a number of 12 second passes, while Paul Beardmore had his turbo bug out shaking down some new carb and chassis settings, culminating in a 12.3 pass from him. John Saxton was another casualty of the day, winning fail of the day award (A Bears Motorsport voucher)commiserations John....
Anyway, I'll let some of the pictures do the talking.....

Rennwagens @ FreddieFiles, "Cal-look edition", Ninove 2012.
The 9th-10th of March saw the annual Friddie Files event held in the sleepy town of Ninove, Belgium.
This years event saw the celebration of 15 years of the event. With that in mind the organisers decided that it would have a "Cal-look" theme, the perfect show for prospect member James "Peachey" Cornes to check out.
With a 3am start from Stoke-on-Trent and a 700 miles round trip ahead of him, he decided his 1966 Cal-look bug wouldn't be needed, but called-upon the trusty daily to take on this arduous journey.
By 9:30am he was in France joining the "Type2 Detectives Cruise" to Ninove, meeting up with fellow prospect/current Rennwagen members, Matt Lawton, Gaz Lawton, Mike Riley and unforunatly for Rich Battison, in his 1960 type 2 pannel van, suffered a engine fire just a 100yds away from the train, thankfully Mike Riley was on hand to put out the fire.
Once on the road the cruise wound its way through northern France and down into Belgium, where the cruise ended at the Witkap Vintage Beer Brewery. Here a complimentary beer and a few more were enjoyed by the cruisers.
That night saw the lads meet up with fellow Cal-look club, JG54 members James Dore, Andy Roberts, Alex Thorn and Heydon Mizon, to see Volksworld editor and JG54 member Ivan McCutcheon Dj at Roxy's Club in town.
Sunday saw a early start with the 1st 150 cars taking home a limited run FreddieFlies, "Cal-look edition" tee shirt. The day saw the number of cars attending the show rise to around the 800 mark!
If your thinking of attending some of the European shows next year then this is definitely one to put in your diary!
Thanks to Freddie and Kobus and all the team that organised the event, hopefully next year the Rennwagens will be there in force.
