Mark's Meltdown

'Meltdown Mark's' 64 Gasser in Progress

the old 64 ragtop which I think most club members have owned at one time or another has been in Mark's hands for a while now getting a thorough make over. The car will be a tribute to the gassers that campaigned on the drag strips of the 60's and 70's. Here is a bit of a mock up of how it is hoped it will look and some of the parts ammassed for it. It will be running a 2276 draw through turbo type 1.

Dave Wain's mashed gearbox

Following VW Action when Dave wrecked his gearbox losing first gear, fellow Renn Wagen member John Walklett rebuilt the box upgrading as required. Here's what he found inside the 'box!

Wheel goodness from Jonny Java

John Walklett's new wheels, genuine mag gas burners, are currently in for detailing by Jon Abbot at Java, makers of excellent repro wheels themselves but also top notch restorers as well. How good does this recently completed wheel look?!

Renn-Wagens @ VW Action

New personal bests for most, and a couple of breakages were the order of th weekend before foul weather put an end to the weekends racing.

Paul Beardmore's turbo bug was out on the strip and looked a genuine white knuckle ride - his efforts over the weekend unfortunately didn't result in a complete full power run but Paul ended up with a best time of 13.33 @ 91.7mph and a broken axle. This thing will honk on when Paul's notoriously heavy right foot is let loose on the car fully!

John Walklett installed A NOS system into his bug shortly before the show but was plagued with problems on the setup throughout the racing, BUT he did end up with a new pb with a time of 12.4 @ 104.30 - an amazing time for a true street car. With further dialling in John will be looking for improvements that may even see him into the 11's.

Dave Wain brought out his '66 and drove it to a brilliant new pb of 13.6 @ 97.43 MUCH quicker than his previous 14.03. Unfortunately Dave's racing ended on a low note when he stripped 1st gear...

Mike Riley's Samba was given a good thrashing, seeing Mike beat his previous best of 17.16 and getting down into the 16's - 16.7 AND he even managed to drive it home! Nice one Mike!

Last, but by no means least - Kev Donlon's awesome turbo bay! Kev has been hunting a 14 second quarter mile for a while now and well and truly found it storming down the quarter mile in 14.30 seconds. NUTS.

Racing aside the show was just brilliant - the sun shone on Saturday and the racing carried on into the evening - I've personally never seen night racing before and I was blown away, it's awesome. Its just a shame the rain came down on the Sunday! There was a brilliant turn out of awesome cars from two notable heavy hitters on the cal-look/drag racing club scene - the JG54 Greenhearts were out in force and the DAS crowd made the long trip across to the show. VW Action was surely the best show of the year on UK soil to see real cal-look cars on the strip, a true spectacle.

A major mention to the organisers, marshalls, racers and all the other people who made it a great weekend - THANKS!

Old cars

Both of these cars are current SAS Renn Wagen vehicles, but they don't look anything like this today!
Guess who?

Couple more pics of Paulie's bug.

Lee's turbo setup

Nuff Said....

Nitrous

Soon to be in the back of my bug!

Paulie's new ride

Lee & me nipped around to chez Beardmore yesterday to check out Paulie's new bug, and all I can say is that it is awesome. Everything on this car means BUSINESS, and to say it sounds HARD is a real understatement. How it sits, how it sounds all just incredible. look out for Paul making some shakedown passes getting to know the car at VW Action. While we were there it transpired that Paul is selling lots and lots of high performance parts from his old 12 second bug (see pictures further down this page) so if there is anything you want or need, drop me an email and I'll pass it on to Paul. The afternoon was pretty fruitful as Lee walked away having bought a turbo set up for his bug off Paul and I got a Nitrous set up for the Oval. Jaz seat/rollcage/built box/you name it from his old car or his parts stash are all for sale.
